The Story of De Jong’s Panschop
In 1959, Mr. De Jong’s father purchased two spade shovels and a stainless-steel handle from Sneeboer. At the time, this was a significant investment for a small-scale fruit and vegetable farm, but he knew that quality comes at a price. This investment paid off, because after 65 years of loyal service, the spade was only slightly cracked. We had the honor of refurbishing this spade by welding the crack shut and thoroughly restoring the tool. Now the spade is ready to last another 65 years.
Mr. De Jong’s father worked with these tools until he retired. A few years ago, De Jong Sr. passed away, and his children inherited the tools. Years of use have worn down the trowel, but that now makes it the perfect size for Mr. De Jong’s wife. And so the trowel is still used with great pleasure in the garden.

Old Garden Tools Given a New Lease on Life
We regularly receive 50- to 60-year-old tools at our shop to fit them with new handles. The stainless steel part is often in even better condition than new, because frequent use in the ground has polished it to a stunning finish—almost like a mirror. We recognize these tools by the “S” stamped into the blade, which was our very first logo on stainless steel tools. This “S” was part of our slogan at the time: “Tools with an S guarantee success.”
This shows that our products are not only durable, but also improve with age. The steel develops a unique patina and wear patterns that give the tools a personal touch and character. Restoring these old tools allows us to honor a piece of history while preserving their functional value.
